Western catchment (Avalanche) the beauty of nature located in Ooty!

Synopsis:  First of all a very Happy New Year 2021 to all the reading enthusiast! I am thankful to you for coming back again to read my page after long time.  Corona has not spared anyone from the havoc, but we must be grateful to the creator for keeping us alive and giving us an another year to step in.

Happy to come back and share some of my memories with you again! After all disasters, our thirst for the love of nature has always been within us.  Once the lockdown was relaxed to some extent, we planned a short vacation that can be affordable to us and this time we had explored the unexplored. Some of you would have been there but even a native of Nilgiris district might find it difficult to enter the forest.

In this page, I will guide you how to get in to Avalanche, where to stay and the total budget.

Yes, fasten your seat belts and get ready for the wonderful tour of Western catchment (Avalanche and Emerald lake, Ooty).


Day 1: Kotagiri:

Kotagiri is known for its scenic beauty, which is located approximately 67 kilometers from Coimbatore in an altitude of 6060 feet. We started at so early as usual and reached Mettupalayam in an hour from Coimbatore. E-pass was a mandatory thing to be packed along with your bags nowadays, I registered it online and got it instantly. There were very less tourists in the check post. We reached Kotagiri and we were trying to reach our colleague, Mr. Santosh, who lives in Kotagiri but was unable to meet him.  Kotagiri has very less picnic spots to visit but memorable, one of them is Catherine falls.


Moving on, we went to Coonoor and done our purchase at the famous, Modern Bakery.  It is always advisable to do your shopping like bakery items and stuffs earlier so that you will not have any changes on your plan. We had our lunch very late and reached our destination "Bella Vista" located in Mount pleasant, Coonoor. A beautiful place to be with your family. The cottage has 5 to 6 rooms, neat and clean. Beautiful entrance with a Shuttle court and many indoor games available on request and for free! You can order food of your choice, which is delicious and worth for money. Day #2:  We had a good rest at the resort and got up early in the morning. When you plan on tour, please take adequate rest early and start your day early the next day to avoid traffic and precisely you get long hours to explore.  Since we have been to Ooty many times, we drove directly to Emerald lake which is located via Muthorai village. Beautiful place to sit and relax. We had some snacks and spent our time. My son loved that place and started to show the Photographer in him and were clicking pictures and ran towards me and kissed me in my cheek (What else you could wish on earth than love?!) After spending about an hour we went to Avalanche, which is just a few minutes drive. We had to wait few hours to get the permission.  It is always advisable to get the permission on prior when you go with family.  The area is controlled by the Forest department.  Please do call me or send a message in whatsapp so that I will let you know if they allow and the ways to reach the place.



We were so happy to end our day in such a wonderful place. Mesmerizing view and the climate were marvelous! While coming back, we visited our relatives and got some vegetables and fruits.  Ooty vegetables are mostly organic and don't miss to purchase it. Road side sellers were not seen this time and we had to go the market.  Take Ooty-Kothagiri route while coming back. The roads are free of traffic and/or heavy trucks.

Cherambadi (71 kilometres away from Ooty)

We usually start so early when it comes to holiday. I am gifted in a way that my son as well as my wife, both keep things ready one day before so that we will not be late the next day.  Cherambadi is located near Pandalur, which is very close to Wayanad border. This place is really awesome and you will find your inner soul getting chill.  Mr. Madhu and his wife will care for you the most, which will give you a home away from home experience. She cooks well. There you can find tea estates, poultry, birds, a water stream inside and outside the property, a tree house, etc... He will teach you farming if you are interested.
